CONNECT2CREEK

The Wheaties Academy is a group of grassroots leaders that were tasked with turning their “ideas into action.” Therefore the Wheaties are organizing a wetlands festival on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 1-4 PM called Connect 2 Creek.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate Lena Gulch (the Clear Creek trail that is east of Kipling Street between 39th and 41st, including the tunnel) by connecting community around an ecological asset, inspiring stewardship through education, and creating a sense of place. We have already hosted a clean-up of the area with Megan’s Place, a respite care center for children on 38th Ave in Wheat Ridge (http://www.megansplacellc.org).

There was fun had by all creating art with sidewalk chalk, clearing invasive weeds, and cleaning up 2 large bags of trash along Kipling, the trail, and the creek. We plan to hold a couple more clean-up days before the festival and hope it can become an ongoing event. Connect 2 Creek will also include a temporary community mural within the tunnel. We are asking local schools, businesses, and artists to paint door panels that will be brought together the day of the festival and displayed along the tunnel wall.

In order to turn our ideas into reality, we are asking for donations to obtain: art supplies including door panels, paint, brushes and chalk; cleaning materials, and marketing tools to get the word out and thank our generous sponsors.
